Málaga culture

Málaga, the Capital of the same province, is an andalucian city in the south of Spain.
Málaga also is a candidate for the title of "European capital of Culture" in 2016. With its about 560.300 inhabitants Málaga is the sixth largest city in Spain. At aubout a 100 km distance from Gibraltar it is situated in the very west of the Mediterranean Sea.
The city of Málaga is surrounded by montains (Montes de Málaga). Two rivers run through  the city, the Guadalmedina and Guardalhorce, flowing into the Mediterranean Sea.

The flamenco expresses the music and feeling of Andalucia. Jewish-Arabic influences and the "gitanos" who migrated from India in 1450 formed over hundreds of years the flamenco of today.
The young people today blend the flamenco into different, more modern elements, and that is why there are different opinions between purists (Cante jondo) and modernists.

Pablo Ruiz Picasso lived with his family in Málaga for ten years in one of the most beautiful and romantic places. The influence of the South and the Mediterranean (its brightness, the white of the houses and the deep blue of the sea) were with him all his  life as well as the cosmopolitan atmosphere, the bull-fights and his exuberance. This is why Málaga "the city of the Paradise" shares its uniqueness with its most famous son.

The museum´s art collection emphasizes Picasso´s idea of life.
